Sons & Daughters of the 442nd RCT
In World War II, 18,000 Japanese American soldiers overcame adversity at home and enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight in a war far away. They fought with valor and honor for a country that doubted their loyalty. To this day, the combination of the 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate) and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team remains as the Army’s most highly decorated combat unit in U.S. history for its size and length of service.
This website was built to honor their legacy and serve as an educational platform and research resource for the 442. Phase 1 was to redesign and rebuild the organization’s existing website to give it a firm foundation. The navigation was reorganized and reduced from 15 top-level elements to three. The home page was simplified, store modernized and existing content moved to categories that help reduce clutter and confusion.
A soldier roster was also added where users can search a database of more than 9,000 soldiers by name, unit, or rank and view detailed stories of their service.
Development in additional phases is ongoing with additional capabilities including search for graves, expanded soldier stories, photographic archives, press archives, greatly expanded and interactive history section, and integration with in-person exhibits.
